A girls guide to becoming a lady.
“The best way to learn to be a lady is to see how other ladies do it.”

Dead Prez one of Hip Hop’s amazing groups pays homage to the Natural Beauty of Black Women. Take a listen, and remember you’re beautiful JUST THE WAY YOU ARE!

Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren’t.
~Margaret Thatcher

I see the fear in your eyes surprised
Your cover’s been blown
I know just who I am and what I wanna do
I can make you run
Make you hide from all your ancestors
Transgression that you hold inside
Sisters rising up and seeing that our time is here
We’re taking back what’s been ours for years
Let the heaven of a sister embrace you
And praise them other gods
All these lies and all this propaganda
That you want us to take
We’re gonna take ours

A road full of promise.

A few weeks ago I had an interesting encounter with a young girl on the bus. After speaking with her I started paying attention to every the girls in that age group. The 45 minute ride on the L train revealed that not one of the girls on the train carried themselves in a ladylike manner. They all spoke loudly, used vulgar language and I even witnessed some of the girls being mistreated by their male counterparts. My mind was blown.

When did we get here? When did we get to the place where 13/14 year old girls acted and wanted to be GROWN women?

That also led me to thinking what part do I play in helping ? So often people throw around the “It takes a Village to raise a child” but then they don’t live up to it. I want to be the difference and this blog is the first step.

With the help of my sisters, mother, grandmother, aunts, friends, nieces and cousin I do my best to make a difference in helping guide these young girls to becoming ladies.

Being good is commendable, but only when it is combined with doing good is it useful.  ~Author Unknown
